Real Madrid v Getafe – 0-1 – 02/03/26

Match-day 26 of the La Liga season brought Getafe to the Bernabeu. Real Madrid were looking to maintain their push behind Barcelona for the league title. Meanwhile, Getafe look to stay clear of a relegation scrap. One thing that I thought was interesting to see was the Castilla graduate Thiago Pitarch started this game ahead of some more experienced players.

Usually my match summaries are a lot longer and speak about interesting moments of the game. However, this game was not the case. This game was to put it frankly an absolute snooze-fest. The majority of the game was Real Madrid dominating possession meanwhile Getafe had 11 men behind the ball and stubbornly fended them off. From the first 10 minutes anyone could tell that this was the case. Getafe masterly used the ‘dark arts’ to frustrate both the Real Madrid players and their fans. Some of the stats from the first half were staggering. Getafe had 13 fouls by the end of the first 45 minutes and 6 of them came in the first 10. They also managed to only have 21% possession of the ball (23% by the end of the game). To be fair to the away side, the goal they scored was quite something. A loose ball fell to Satriano where he struck a sweet volley into the top right corner from the edge of the box. Real Madrid had a great chance where Vinicius was put through thanks to some great pressure from Pitarch, however, Getafe number 1 David Soria, won that battle.

The second half was more of the same, even worse. For large spells of the match, Real Madrid would recycle possession back and forth. The Real Madrid players and fans began to get more and more frustrated as the game went on. A few chances would fall for Carvajal and Mastanuono however, no joy for Los Blancos. Arguably the end of the game was the most entertaining part. Mastanuono was shown a straight red card for something he said to the referee. Shortly after, Liso would receive a second yellow card. Comedically, kicking the ball away mistaking the referee’s whistle as the end of the game.

Overall, this game was as they say a very tough watch. Finding a player to be player of the game was extremely difficult as every player on the pitch was poor in my opinion. However, I think David Soria deserved to be the Player of the Match as he pulled of some big saves for his side. Honestly, I think I should have been Player of the Match for watching the game.
