Real Madrid beat the Old Lady 1-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu. This fixture is one with deep ties, in particular the 2017 Champions League Final between the sides where Los Blancos came on top. Real Madrid were in top form coming into the game especially Kylian Mbappé who was in electric form who had scored 5 goals already in 2 games in the competition. Meanwhile, Juventus had been suffering from consistent draws in previous matches. Whenever a match is played in the Bernabeu there is an obligation to win. Throughout the match it was a tale of one team (Real Madrid) trying to break down a stubborn low block team who looked to break on the counter (Juventus). The chances that came in the match were matched equally by stellar goal keeping performances from Thiabaut Courtois and Michele Di Gregorio which kept the score low. However, in the 57th minute Vinicius Junior expertly created space from the left hand side whose shot it the post, where the rebound found a marauding Jude Bellingham who scored from close range. After the goal, the game opened up for both sides where Di Gregorio made an incredible double save and Courtois won the 1v1 against Vlahovic on a Juventus break. Even though the score was low, the game was run by the 20 year old Turk Arda Guler who received a standing ovation when he left the pitch and received the Man of the Match award. However, I believe that Di Gregorio deserves credit for his valiant display.
