Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad – 1-0 – 6/12/25

Once again I was able to go the Alfredo Di Stefano for another game. This time it was Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad. It was a big clash at the top of the table between 2nd (Real Madrid) vs 3rd (Real Sociedad).

This was a more personal game as we know that I support Real Sociedad as my Spanish team. Before the kick-off there was a standing ovation for the players that represented Spain for their midweek triumph in the Nations League. A nice sentiment before the start of the game.

The game however, there was not much to report. The first half was a tale of Real Madrid holding possession with only half chances. Nonetheless, Real Sociedad with the ball was dangerous especially from the wide areas causing problems for the Real Madrid defence. At the end of the half, Real Madrid converted from a corner thanks to an unfortunate flick from Vicente which led to an own goal.

The second half once again had the same trend. Although, much more work for the referee. Real Sociedad scored from a corner however, Rodriguez was fouled trying to collect the ball and was disallowed. Once again, the referee was called to the screen to review a potential penalty for Real Sociedad through a handball which was disallowed as well. Players went down injured and the referee was under immense pressure throughout the game as the crowd was relentless. In the last minutes, Real Sociedad tried to equalise but to no avail.

The crowd was deafening. Every decision against the home side was met with harsh hostility. Nonetheless, Real Madrid left as victors.

The POTM for me was Linda Caicedo. The majority of possession that Real Madrid had looked stale. However, whenever she was on the ball, she made things happen. Whether that be an incisive pass or taking players out of the game with elite dribbling.
